The Dutch Resistance Museum - *a must-see*

This museum detailed Dutch society leading up to the occupation by the Germans in 1940 and how the resistance movement developed.

Prior to German occupation, Dutch society was fragmented. It had great wealth, but also great poverty. There were 500,000 people unemployed out of 9 million inhabitants. "Those on the dole are regarded with disain. Tens of thousands of Dutch people live below the poverty line and on the edge of hunger."
